Caryl L. Lloyd Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages is pleased to offer a scholarship for students taking a foreign language class. The scholarship intends to encourage the study of foreign languages at Columbus State University. Based on our selection criteria, one student will be awarded the $500 scholarship to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, and/or books for one foreign language class. One scholarship is awarded annually.

In accordance with the scholarship’s selection criteria, the student will submit a completed Application Form, which will also include:

  • her/his GPA to determine academic potential,
  • his/her EFC report to determine financial need,
  • a Letter of Recommendation from a CSU faculty member to determine actual performance in classroom and laboratory settings,
  • her/his Resume/CV to determine campus and/or community involvement,
  • and a brief statement (not to exceed 500 words) that expresses the importance and value of language study for her/his academic and personal life.

The scholarship recipient will be determined by faculty from the Department of Modern and Classical languages.

Once semester enrollment has been verified, the scholarship will be awarded by the Office of Financial Aid.

Department of Modern and Classical Languages Spanish Study Abroad Scholarship Fund

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages is pleased to offer a scholarship for students who plan to study Spanish in a CSU approved Study Abroad program. The scholarship intends to encourage the study of the Spanish language through study abroad. Based on our selection criteria, one student will be awarded the $1000 scholarship to help cover the cost of study abroad tuition, fees, books, and/or program costs during a semester of study abroad. One scholarship will be awarded each year.

In accordance with the scholarship’s selection criteria, the student will submit a completed Application Form, which will also include:

  • her/his GPA in Spanish classes taken,
  • a brief statement (not to exceed 500 words) that demonstrates financial need,
  • a brief statement (not to exceed 500 words) that expresses the importance and value of this study abroad opportunity for the student’s academic and personal life
  • a proposal that will demonstrate how the student plans to assist in MCL dept. study abroad program recruitment efforts.

The scholarship recipient will be determined by faculty from the Department of Modern and Classical languages.

Once study abroad enrollment has been verified, the scholarship will be awarded by the Office of Financial Aid.
