About the Department

Our curriculum is designed to prepare undergraduates for critical thinking and employment flexibility. It is student-centered, emphasizes creative inquiry, global perspectives, hands-on educational experiences, and research initiatives that have the potential to make real-world impacts. Our graduates are ready to serve the needs of their communities, continue with graduate studies, and become lifelong learners and leaders. The department's philosophy emphasizes faculty-student contact outside the classroom and individual attention for our majors and minors. We are committed to fostering a diverse academic environment that encourages respectful engagement, vigorous debate, and opportunity for all. Our instructors are passionate about society, culture, and language studies. We strive to help students think critically, develop technical skills, and embrace their creativity. Our faculty's expertise encompasses a broad range spanning Latin American literature, Hispanic women's writing, Spanish and Latin American culture, Hispanic linguistics, the use of technology in the Humanities, social equality, community development, and gender studies.

Curriculum & Outcomes

Our curriculum is designed to prepare undergraduates for critical thinking and employment flexibility. The department's philosophy emphasizes faculty-student contact outside the classroom and individual attention for our majors and minors. We are proud of our program's practical outcomes over the past six years:

  • All of our graduates in the Teacher Certification track secured employment teaching high school Spanish in Georgia and elsewhere.
  • All of our graduates who applied to graduate school were admitted into regionally or nationally recognized programs.

About Us

Our instructors are passionate about language and culture. We strive to help students think critically, develop technical skills, and embrace the creative power of language. Areas of professional focus include Latin American literature, Hispanic women's writing, Spanish and Latin American culture, and Hispanic linguistics.

Our faculty's expertise encompasses a broad range spanning Latin American literature, Hispanic women's writing, Spanish and Latin American culture, Hispanic linguistics, and the use of technology in the Humanities.

Our students can take also classes at the Elementary and Intermediate levels in Arabic, French, German, Japanese, and Latin.
